Scoutmaster's Corner

Troop meetings are held every Wednesday 7:15-8:45 PM at St. Mark's Fellowship Hall. Please bring your son around 7:00 PM and pick him up around 9:00 PM so he can participate in the entire program. Troop 190 meets every Wednesday during the school year, whether or not Talbot County Schools are open or closed. You can look at our website at “troop190.org” to find out about any changes in meetings and you will also be contacted by phone and/or email if conditions require us to cancel the meeting. Further, if you think driving may be hazardous, it is important to exercise your good judgment.

Troop 190 members wear Scout Uniforms to all meetings and functions, as the spirit of Scouting is promoted when all the boys are dressed properly and attend all the activities. The uniform shirt is not worn over non-uniform clothing that is visible, nor is any hat other than the Boy Scout cap to be worn with the uniform. We never wear white socks with our uniform. We accept no excuses for failure to wear the complete and proper uniform to troop meetings and designated functions; either wear the uniform or do not attend.  We wear complete uniform with shorts until the end of September, then long pants beginning October 1st.

We bring our Scout Handbook to all Troop Meetings and Functions.

Troop dues are $1.00 weekly. Your son is reminded at the beginning of each month of his dues-paid status to enable him to keep current.

Troop Good Turns, Service Projects and Special Events occur several times throughout the year. Announcements are made at the Troop Meetings about these functions.

The Summer Camp 2010 Savings Plan is available for members of Troop 190. Each Scout is encouraged to bring $10.00 each week towards his Summer Camp fee. This way there will be no large amount due in April. The total fee for Summer Camp is $340.00 this year with a $25 deposit due in February. ($10.00 a week can make it much easier!)

Patrol Leader’s Council Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 7:00 PM at St. Mark's.

Troop Committee Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM at St. Mark's.

In order to preserve the outdoor experience and prevent outings from becoming too much an extension of city life, personal communication equipment (cellular telephones, pagers, radio transceivers, etc.) are banned from all troop outings. It is undesirable to have personal communication equipment available on a wilderness activity for routine personal or business activities. Adults who have such equipment are asked to leave them in the cars on any outing. The Assistant Scoutmaster in charge of each specific activity will provide to the parents of Scouts attending each activity a list of cellular numbers by which you can contact him in case of emergency during that outing.

Questions about Troop 190 may be directed to me at my home number, 410-364-5556, or to any of the Assistant Scoutmasters and Committee members who are at Troop meetings every Wednesday.

Parents are always welcome to attend troop functions.
